What Is Chiropractic

The practice of chiropractic is based on sound scientific principles.
The existence of the nervous system as the primary control mechanism of the body is an undisputed scientific fact. Its relationship with the spine is the focus of the practice of chiropractic. The spine develops to provide two primary functions freedom of movement and to house and protect the spinal cord. When the vertebrae of the spine become misaligned through trauma or repetitive injury or degeneration , the consequences being  range of motion becomes limited and  spinal nerves emerging from the spinal cord are compromised. DCs use the term “subluxation” to describe such disruptions. Interruption of nerve flow can eventually lead to pain, disability, and an overall decrease in the quality of life. Conversely, the removal of that interference has been shown to have significant, lasting health benefits. Through the adjustment of the subluxation, the doctor of chiropractic endeavors to restore normal nerve expression. The body is then able to respond appropriately to any imbalance in the system, thus relieving symptoms and restoring health. It Takes 7 years of university training  passing both national and state boards to become a licensed Chiropractor.

Chiropractors emphasize the inherent recuperation power of the body to heal itself without drugs or surgery. The practice chiropractic focuses on the relationship between the spine and nervous system and how the relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health. We know the body can maintain and heal itself in most cases, without chemicals or cutting out of certain tissues, we believe health is something that comes from within.

Although Chiropractors use physical modalities, exercise and nutritional therapy to enhance wellness and speed recovery the chiropractic  “adjustment” is designed to restore the proper mobility of the joints and is a chiropractors main treatment protocol.  By treating the root cause of discomfort, the patient will experience better alignment and less strain on the muscles and joints. Chiropractors are trained in a variety of adjusting techniques and will determine which technique is best for each patient. Chiropractic is safe and natural way towards healthcare.

Chiropractic also places an emphasis on nutritional and exercise programs, wellness and lifestyle modifications for promoting physical and mental health. While chiropractors make no use of drugs or surgery, doctors of chiropractic do refer patients for medical care when those interventions are indicated.
