I have been working in the massage field since 1996.  I offer deep tissue massage, foot reflexology, Swedish massage, pregnancy massage, and chair massage, incorporating various techniques learned from the many professional training courses I’ve attended over the last 13 years.

Therapeutic massage promotes good health, fitness, vitality and relaxation.  Studies have shown that massage has many benefits:

-          eases discomfort of tired, sore muscles

-          encourages general relaxation and reduces anxiety

-          relieves tension headaches

-          improves flexibility and joint mobility

-          improves immune system functioning

-          increases circulation of blood and lymph

-          increases energy flow

-          speeds recovery from strenuous physical exertion

-          promotes better sleep

-          helps to relieve the everyday stress and tension that can lead to disease and illness.

Massage is a proactive approach to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  It is a mini-vacation from the aches and cares of daily life.  It supports your active life-style, and is a natural approach to easing tension and pain.

What can you expect at your first appointment?

As your massage therapist, I need to know your general state of health, and will ask you to fill out a short health form.  Based on your input, I will then discuss various options with you.  For example, some people prefer a “full massage” which includes work on your back, shoulders and neck, legs, feet, arms, hands, face and head.  Others prefer a massage focused on areas of the body where they feel some tension or discomfort.  For example: low back and neck; specific work on feet and hands, or head; stretching to loosen tightness and restriction in joints.  Pressure can be light, medium, or deep, depending on your preference.

Although there are some techniques that do not require you to undress, I will most likely be using a light oil or lotion that absorbs well and is good for your body.  I will leave the room while you undress (you may choose to wear underwear and/or shorts – your comfort level is most important).  You will relax on a warm, padded massage table with an adjustable headrest, under a sheet and blanket.  During your massage you will be completely covered except for the area I am working on.

How long is a massage session?

The most requested length of a session is one hour.  You will receive a full 60-minute therapeutic massage.  Your feedback during a session is important – I can adjust pressure being used, room temperature, type and volume of music, lighting, even the length of the session, at your request.  There are bolsters, pillows, and towels available for additional support and comfort if needed.

A 30-minute session is sometimes requested as an introduction to massage, or when time is limited because of other commitments.

You can also request longer sessions – 1¼ hours, 1½ hours, even 2 hour sessions.
